Check-in

Home sweet home for the next 33 days. For some reason it seems long yet short at the same time. Long because I will be missing everyone back home but short because I have so little time to do everything there is to do in Dallas. I believe we are taking a biochemistry class, embryology, ethics, and anatomy. I am pretty sure we get to work on cadavers this summer but the syllabus has not been handed out. They made sure when we got there that we would know how much work is ahead and what exactly should be expected of us. Everyone is super friendly and I ran into some familiar faces. I am so thankful my roomie is not weird, but down to earth AND she brought one more pair of shoes than I did :P we will get along real well haha. So blogging I've found takes up a lot of time...So I may be blogging every other day.

So we woke up around 8:30 AM this morning at Jonathan's place and got ready to sight-see. We wanted some Korean food, and I heard that Royal Lane is the best place to go, but since they weren't open yet we tried this place called Cafe Bakery and got these pizza/pig in a blanket looking things. They were yummy.

Just thought this was cool, a vending machine for doggies!

Then we headed to a garden in Dallas but they don't allow dogs in OR in the car...seriously?! So instead we drove right down the street to White Rock Lake. White Rock is a 9 Mile wide lake with trails for bikers and runners. It was kind of annoying driving while trying not to run over bikers in the street, there were so many! At one end of the lake there was a dog park, so we let Richie out to be harassed by big dogs that wanted to lick him. Just thought the two dogs in the above picture were funny.

After the park we went back to the Korean restaurant where we ate sub-par Dolsot bibimbap, chapchae, hamul pajun, and shrimp tempura. This was my fortune... came true I suppose.

Thennnnn after thattt we went to Inwood area when we stopped at I heart Yogurt for some froyo. We stepped into a sports store and I tried on more hats! This was more of a joke though, I would never wear this hat haha.

My full size bed :) a definite upgrade from my twin at home haha. The comforter is amazing, as well as the 4!!! super fluffed pillows. At home I only have one very flat pillow...

Living Area

These shoes were made for walking... I will wear every single pair of shoes, just watch! haha There wasn't enough closet space so I just lined them up in the living area.

This is what I ate the first night. Fine dining yall :) Every morning and night is a buffet o.O I won't get fat, I won't eat another cookie, I will work out....

After dinner I headed back upstairs to blog and finish unpacking. Then headed to the lounge on the 11th for a game board night. There was balderdash, scene it!, and cranium, but all we played for 2 hours was taboo haha. MAN I sucked sooo bad the first round. TAKEOVER=brainfart. I couldn't describe it....I blame the lack of sleep haha.

So anyway there are so many pictures I want to include but then this post would be too long. I guess I will regurgitate all the photos in a facebook album when I get back home. G'night guys.

Destination Dallas

Yesterday felt like it was never-ending. So much has happened since Sunday that my head feels like it is about to explode and my body aches everywhere!! But I want to start at the beginning... at my celebratory going away party (we were celebrating the fact that I was leaving :P) :). So I was up until 4 AM Sunday packing for my trip later that day. Went to bed and woke up at 8 to help set up the house for guests. My mom made/ordered all my favorite foods, which is making my mouth water as I am typing this.

My Honey Green Tea that the bf dropped off for me at 2 AM to help keep me awake while packing.

My FAVORITE banh beo, they're are little circles of delicious. Even brought one whole platter on the 5 hour ride to Dallas... needless to say it is completely gone now.

Vietnamese jello, layers of coffee, coconut, and some other green flavor in this colorful desert.

Yummmmy cupcakes that my cousin Jeanne made, I also took these on the road with me. Unfortunately they melted...bad. haha I just stuck them in the fridge and they're good to go.

Ordered Hawaiian and mushroom/sausage/pepperoni pizza.

OMG and the best BEST bun bo hue ever! No lie, I could eat this everyday.

Vietnamese Cream filled pastries, I'm not sure what the name for it is, but they are goot!

Left Houston around 5-ish. I slept for an hour and a half and when I woke up I think we were still in Houston! haha

Stopped by a Bucees for some dippin dots.

After arriving in Dallas we met up with David's older brother Jonathan, who is already a student at UT Southwestern and stayed at his apartment. The place is very luxurious and I can't believe med students can live like this! We went down to the common area and played shuffle board, pool, and drank their hot cocoa and tea. Then we went for a late night dip in the pool. It felt great to be sooooo relaxed, we were in the pool at 11:30 AM and it was completely empty, there was a small waterfall and the water was just warm enough... why can't everyday be this way?

This is the kitchen common area at David's brother's (Jonathan) apartment. tres chic!

Ahah caught richie in the act!! can you find him?

So I really want to blog about my day today! but I'm exhausted and there is a game board night going on on the 11th floor. I guess I must go mingle and make friend sighhhh....haha just kidding. I have a long day ahead tomorrow so I will probably be in bed by 1 AM :/ BUT I will say that I am loving Dallas and this internship so far. Staying at a hotel tops the dorm rooms of last year by far. I feel really blessed and amazed that I have an opportunity to meet such ambitious, talented people. :) oh tonight is a very special night...

Saddings

It's funny how just being in the next room can feel like we are miles apart. I imagine being 250 miles apart will feel like there is an ocean between us.

It has come down to it, the last night in Houston. So I am trying to finish up my packing and it is not looking good. I usually like packing... when it is for other people, but for some reason I am dreading this task at the moment. I really am excited to live in a different city, meet new people, and learn new things but I will be dearly homesick :(.

Today I had a multitude of errands to run. I forgot my camera today and was forced to use my camera phone that doesn't have flash. We ate at Miyakos for happy hour, which was not so happy anymore since the prices went up :(. I ran into my old boss from when I used to be a server at a Sushi/Hibachi restaurant and it turns out he was our waiter. Awkward and strange at the same time. I never had anything against him and overall he was a good boss, it was just weird to run into him in such a way. It is funny how something so small can open up a chapter of the past. I hope to never go back to serving again, restaurant biz is not for me. Anyhoo this is what we ate..and ate..and ate.

Our customary chopped scallop cheers! (Morris, David, and me)

From left New York, Crunchy, New York again for me :), and Hot Geisha.

And it wouldn't be the last meal without Fried Ice-cream... nom nom nom.

In Transit

YAYAYA my bag has arrived in Houston. Boo... why does UPS not work on Sundays :/

Saddle Bag
It has so many compartments, including the saddle flap! So Texan huh... I really wanted one with shoulder straps as well as the detachable messenger strap. This one is a light brown leather, the picture makes it look burnt orange but we will see when it arrives. I don't mind either color because I think the shape is very versatile and I can wear it to school or out and about. This one I wouldn't feel so bad if I scruffed up a bit, which makes it a perfect accessory for me. :)

Downtime

Yesterday morning started out really rough... but everything turned out okay, better than expected. We (Me and David) picked up Kevin's cousin from Toronto and spent the day showing her around Houston. There wasn't much to show... but we took her to some of our favorite spots.

Of course we had to go to Hokkaido. We are all sushi <3-ers>

Took Marilyn to the Galleria for some shoppingz! Another favorite of ours. Still in search of a hat, but this was not the one... haha Just playing around in Urban Outfitters.

Then we hit up The Chocolate Bar in Rice Village for some amaazzzing chocolate cake (right). This was a huge slice that reminded us of the cake from Matilda.... haha On the left is the Bayou City cake? I think that was what it was called. It had a somewhat fudge/mousse taste. And of course it was washed down with good ol' milk, does a body good :).

After we had stuffed ourselves silly and had big bellies we decided to swim! haha We headed to UH to swim in the outdoor pool, complete with a water slide. Then played an intense game of beach volleyball. We tied 1-1 and I walked away with a bruised up forearm.

After playing hard we were super thirsty and headed out to Boba Zone. We literally drove all over Houston today (well except up North..haha).

Then we were hungarrry and went nearby to FuFu. I ordered soup dumplings, but I was still stuffed from everything we ate all day.

Then we heading BACK to school for some late bowling. Team North America (David's team) kicked ass first round and then slowly lost steam... haha Woot my highest score yet, go Bertha :P

Yay! Finally caught up on my posts, I felt so bad for blogging such a half-assed post yesterday. As much as I like going out, I always feel guilty that I'm not studying. Today was the first day I've been home for the most part and it feels GREAT. Did some laundry, endless cleaning and packed... then headed to school to take care of some advising stuff. I recently began my med school applications and it is so TEDIOUS, and daunting..sigh. At least it will be over July 1st...happy day :) After that I headed to Texas Children's to volunteer at Ronald McDonald House. As soon as I got home I ate 2 bowls of spaghetti and started this post :)

Day 4

Exhaustion. Literally saw Houston in 1 day. Currently in bed catching up on other blogs... and too lazy to upload and write a full post. Tried to find a picture of the wedges that are now my most favorite shoes ever... but can't find a good image. Oh well. Goodnight!

T-minus 5 Days

Woke up at 4 AM and couldn't sleep, I'm starting to realize I am actually leaving in 5 DAYS!!! Today was supposed to include a rigorous trip to the gym but I couldn't wake up after falling asleep again. Left the house in the lazy outfit below and headed to school to help the Pre- Med Society (AED) clean out the closet we call our office. After some dirty work we ate at McAllister's.

I am actually looking for some cute wedges to wear with my crop jeans, but I am super picky about wedges... They can't be too chunky and only certain types of cork look good to me. The corded ones are okay depending on the quality, there are a few that have caught my eye but that is another post.

My most favorite sweet tea ever!!

Study time spent well... These are going to be my best friends for the next 8 weeks :) Also my room is clearing up after I made much progress today packing. I think I am halfway finished.

I love this picture because of the rainbow of colors... the angle not so much (objects appear smaller in picture) I look like a shorty.

Did some browsing/shopping at Ikea and was tempted to buy things to redesign my sister's room, which will soon become my closet! More on that later and possibly pictures of the new closet when I get back from Dallas. Oh! and I'm dying to post up pictures of this bag I picked up, but I will wait until it is actually shipped to me in 6 business days :P.

Early Morning

Started the day early...6 AM early.. I haven't done this since...I don't remember the last time :/ But I need to start weaning myself off of sleep because I anticipate sleep deprivation for the next month.

Post-procedure, I am grateful my mother is feeling better and everything went smoothly. It was totally worth waking up early to take her.

On the hunt for the perfect summer hat for Vegas in July (this was not the ONE).

Picked up a few necessities... yes they were necessary purchases! I will post up my goodies as soon as I find an occasion to wear them.

Then ended the day with...

Crawfish from Jolynn's

And Mi Wonton from my mom!

These meals were eaten literally within 15 minutes of each other... Can you say food coma. I feel so stuffed that I am developing a slight headache. The ever-growing To-Do list before I leave is also a factor :(. Time to get on the ball and start doing things!

Productive Day

Creating this blog has been the most productive thing I have done all day. I mainly wanted to start one because I feel like too many days pass, blending into one another until I can't keep track of time. No, I don't have Alzheimer...unlike my significant other claims! A new chapter is beginning and I hope to keep up with this blog as consistently as possible...

This is a blend of fashion/food/and a peek inside the life of an aspiring medical student. Yes fashion and medicine..how do those mix you say? As flattering as scrubs are I have an interest in clothes (what girl doesn't?) and like to experiment with different outfits. And of course being a student I am unfortunately confined to shopping on a budget...occasionally. Since I have been a bum for the greater part of today there is no outfit post today, but I will leave you with pictures of my room and the sad state of affairs it is in. :( And this was after a good 10 minutes of cleaning. This is what happens when you go out everyday coming home only to sleep. It also doesn't help that my room is the size of a closet...

I am currently packing for my month long trip to Dallas, where I will be interning at UT-Southwestern. Along with business clothes I'll find some way to stuff in cute summer outfits and the 10 pairs of shoes I want to bring with me!
